Todd Pequeen, Surf Instructor

Todd Pequeen has lived in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica for over a decade. Originally from Buffalo, New York his lust for travel, surfing, and a healthy beach lifestyle landed him in Costa Rica. 

12 years ago Todd was asked by a friend to take her son surfing. At the time he didn’t realize how much he enjoyed sharing his love for the ocean and for the sport of riding waves. As the years past and his quiver of boards grew, so did his roster of clients. He was the first to teach surf lessons in Manuel Antonio and has taught kids from age 6 all the way up to a recent 65 year old! Yes, he did get him up and ride! 

Todd begins the lesson on the beach, talking about everything that a surfer is “looking for.” Ocean knowledge and proper paddling are as important as learning to read waves and the daily conditions. Types of waves, equipment, history and beginning steps to catching waves will all be discussed before doing some board control drills in the ocean.

Then you’ll catch your first wave! Surfing looks easy because it must be smooth. This takes practice, practice, and more practice! Todd is available for private tours and board rentals if you happen to get bitten by the surf bug!
